The Merry Band

All the Girls PosterBoy, do I have a treat for you! The Merry Band poster, the one of all the girls, is here and it’s yours for free! I love all the character posters, but it gives me special delight to give you this one.

Creative collaboration is one on my favorite things. Some creative endeavors are solitary, others are by nature completely collaborative. Writing is often solitary. Filmmaking lies on the other end of the spectrum—the quality of a film depends on all those involved.

Collaborative necessity was something I both loved and found frustrating about theater. When everyone brought his or her heart and full commitment to the project, it was utterly magical. Then there were those occasions where a few, some, or even many refused to enter fully in—and the result always suffered. One person couldn’t save it for the rest. I think it’s why I didn’t want to settle for anything less than a professional acting career. The irony, of course, being that professional work doesn’t guarantee full commitment any more than a community production does.

Writing and self-publishing, it turns out, are a good match for me. I get to rely solely on myself most of the time. On the other hand, I have only myself to blame if something goes south. The solitary part means that when I get a chance to do something collaborative, I really enjoy it. Working with my illustrator, Aisha Zaleha Latip, and Marjorie Schoelles, my graphic artist and an author in her own right, continues to be a delight. A thousand thanks, to both those lovely women.

Right now I’ve got Aisha working hard on finishing touches to the illustrations for book two: Becoming Piper Pan.

Which brings me to my other good news: I’m at the stage of beginning to assemble and lay out book two! More on that next week.
