The Neverland in Northfield

While I moved a lot when I was young, the bulk of my growing up years were spent in the lovely town of Northfield, Minnesota. It’s a real-live version of Garrison Keillor’s “Lake Wobegon” with a highbrow flourish owed to the powerhouse combo of Carleton and St. Olaf Colleges.

This is the place where my fascination with the Neverland began—it was at the Northfield Arts Guild community theater where I played Peter Pan at age eleven.

I’m in Northfield this week. Thanks to my father celebrating his 80th, the family gathered for a Memorial weekend birthday bash. While I’m here, I’m enjoying renewing old ties and revisiting memories. (Be sure to check out the photo, below of my Dad with his all-about-town bicycle and its new sign advertising my book! He does all his errands by bike—I’m thrilled he’s up for this marketing-on-wheels!)

The Northfield Public Library is hosting an author appearance for me while I’m here. Due to remodeling, it will take place in Northfield’s City Hall in the council chambers—on Thursday, May 28th at 7pm. I’ll be reading from my book, talking about the book’s genesis, and signing copies, which Content Bookstore will have for sale on site. It will be all about the Neverland in Northfield.

There was a nice article in the local paper entitled “From Northfield to Neverland,” thanks to local reporter Kevin Krein and to event coordinator Kathy Ness at the Northfield Public Library for setting it up.

If you live anywhere nearby, I hope you’ll come!
